Sciurus tridecemlineatus was named by Mitchell (1821). It is extant. It is the type species of Ictidomys.
It was recombined as Spermophilus tridecemlineatus by Kurten and Anderson (1980); it was recombined as Ictidomys tridecemlineatus by Mitchill (1821) and Helgen et al. (2009).
