Taxonomy
Omomys vespertinus was named by Matthew (1915). Its type specimen is AMNH 16835, a mandible (fragment of left ramus with m1-3), and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Loveina vespertinus by Simpson (1940); it was recombined as Uintanius vespertinus by Szalay (1976); it was recombined as Steinius vespertinus by Bown and Rose (1984), Bown and Rose (1987) and Bown and Rose (1991).
