Taxonomy
Stenoechinus tantalus was named by Rich and Rasmussen (1973) [genotype]. Its type locality is Tavenner Ranch 2, which is in an Arikareean terrestrial horizon in the Renova Formation of Montana. It is the type species of Stenoechinus.
