Mysops was named by Leidy (1871). It is not extant. Its type is Mysops minimus.

It was synonymized subjectively with Syllophodus by Cope (1881).

It was assigned to Cylindrodontidae by Leidy (1871), Wilson (1938) and McKenna and Bell (1997).
