It was recombined as Limnolagus aquaticus by Lyon (1904) and Corbet (1983); it was recombined as Sylvilagus (Limnolagus) aquaticus by Olson (1940); it was recombined as Sylvilagus aquaticus by Kurten and Anderson (1980), Robinson (1984) and Halanych and Robinson (1997).
