It was synonymized subjectively with Taeniolabis sulcatus by Osborn (1930); it was recombined as Taeniolabis taoensis by Granger and Simpson (1929), Matthew (1937), Simmons (1986), Simmons (1987), Eberle and Lillegraven (1998) and Williamson et al. (2016).
