Taxonomy
Palaechthon was named by Gidley (1923) [generic assignment questioned by Gingerich et al. 1983]. It is not extant. Its type is Palaechthon alticuspis. It is the type genus of Palaechthonini.
It was synonymized subjectively with Plesiolestes by Gingerich et al. (1983).
It was assigned to Anaptomorphidae by Simpson (1937); to Paromomyinae by Simpson (1940); to Purgatoriinae by Van Valen and Sloan (1965); to Palaechthonini by Szalay (1969); to Palaechthoninae by Gunnell (1989); to Palaechthonidae by Gidley (1923) and McKenna and Bell (1997); to Primates by Bloch et al. (2007); and to Plesiadapiformes by Rose et al. (2011).
