Sciurus quadrivittatus was named by Say (1823). It is extant.

It was recombined as Tamias quadrivittatus by Allen (1890) and Piaggio and Spicer (2000); it was recombined as Eutamias quadrivittatus by Miller and Rehn (1901), Warren (1909), Howell (1922), Howell (1929) and Hall (1981); it was recombined as Neotamias quadrivittatus by Piaggio and Spicer (2001).
