Procamelus longurio was named by Hay (1921).

It was recombined as Tanupolama longurio by Schultz (1937), Gazin (1942) and Webb (1965); it was considered a nomen dubium by Savage (1951), Hibbard and Dalquest (1962), Webb (1974) and Honey et al. (1998).
