Taxonomy
Tapirus johnsoni was named by Schultz et al. (1975). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Steer Creek (Merritt Dam), which is in a Clarendonian terrestrial horizon in the Ash Hollow Formation of Nebraska.
