Taxonomy
Palaeosyops megarhinus was named by Earle (1891). Its type specimen is PU 10008 and is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Telmatherium megarhinum by Hay (1902); it was synonymized subjectively with Mesatirhinus junius by Mihlbachler (2008); it was recombined as Mesatirhinus megarhinus by Osborn (1908), Riggs (1912), Peterson (1924), Osborn (1929), Mader (1989), Mader (1998) and Mader (2008).
