Texoceros altidens

Taxonomy
Merycodus altidens was named by Matthew (1924). Its type locality is Aphelops Draw Quarries, which is in a Hemphillian terrestrial horizon in the Snake Creek Formation of Nebraska.

It was recombined as Capromeryx altidens by Hesse (1935), Hesse (1936) and Stirton (1938); it was recombined as Texoceros altidens by Frick (1937), Dalquest (1983) and Janis and Manning (1998).

Hesse 1935 (Capromeryx texanus)Intermediate in size between Merycodus necatus and Capromeryx altidens; jaw not shortened as in C. minor and C. mexicana (Chandler, 1916, p. 115); premolars not as high crowned as in the known species of Capromeryx, but higher crowned than in any described species of iMerycodus; ramus slender in outline as in Merycodus; but slightly larger.
