Taxonomy
Oxyclaenus was named by Cope (1884) [first use as a genus by Scott 1892; Cope 1884 had used it only as a subgenus]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Cete by Archibald (1998); to Oxyclaenidae by Scott (1892) and Eberle (2003); and to Acreodi by Tabuce et al. (2011).
