Teleodus avus
Taxonomy
Teleodus avus was named by Marsh (1890) [genotype]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is 5 miles west of Cheyenne River midway bn. French & Battle Creek, which is in a Chadronian terrestrial marl in the Chadron Formation of South Dakota. It is the type species of Teleodus.
It was recombined as Titanotherium avum by Osborn (1896); it was recombined as Megacerops avus by Osborn (1902); it was considered a nomen dubium by Lucas and Schoch (1982).
