Taxonomy
Tomarctus robustus was named by Green (1948). Its type locality is Ricardo, which is in a Clarendonian terrestrial horizon in the Dove Spring Formation of California.
It was recombined as Carpocyon robustus by Wang et al. (1999) and Wang et al. (2008).
