Taxonomy
Trigonias wellsi was named by Wood (1927). Its type locality is Peanut Peak, which is in a Chadronian terrestrial horizon in the Chadron Formation of South Dakota.

It was synonymized subjectively with Trigonias osborni by Scott (1941).
