Taxonomy
Promylagaulus ovatus was named by Rensberger (1979). Its type locality is Monroe Creek (SDSM V-6229), which is in a Monroecreekian terrestrial horizon in the Monroe Creek Formation of South Dakota.
It was recombined as Trilaccogaulus ovatus by Korth (1992).
