Taxonomy
Tetrabelodon osborni was named by Barbour (1916). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Tetrabelodon osborni Quarry, which is in a Barstovian terrestrial horizon in the Valentine Formation of Nebraska.
It was recombined as Trilophodon osborni by Cook (1922), Peterson (1928), Frick (1933) and Osborn (1936); it was synonymized subjectively with Gomphotherium productum by Tobien (1973); it was recombined as Gomphotherium osborni by Downs (1952), Tobien (1972) and Voorhies (1990).
