Taxonomy
Merycochoerus compressidens was named by Douglass (1901). Its type specimen is CM 801, a mandible (partial left ramus with /C - M2), and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Metoreodon compressidens by Thorpe (1937); it was recombined as Ustatochoerus compressidens by Schultz and Falkenbach (1941) and Stevens and Stevens (1989); it was considered a nomen vanum by Lander (1998).
