(1974), Stevens (1977) and MacFadden (1980); it was recombined as Merychyus leptoscelos by Kelly and Lander (1988); it was synonymized subjectively with Merycoides harrisonensis by Lander (1998); it was recombined as Ustatochoerus leptoscelos by Stevens and Stevens (1989), Woodburne (1998) and Stevens and Stevens (2007).
