Taxonomy
Vulpes littoralis was named by Baird (1857) [also said to be 1858]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Canis littoralis by Van Gelder (1978); it was recombined as Urocyon littoralis by Kurten and Anderson (1980), Wayne et al. (1993) and Wilson and Reeder (1993).
