Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
T. M. Lehman 1989Differs from other species of Chasmosaurus in its short, broad squamosal (length/width=1.95, comparedwith 2.60-3.10 in other species) bearing six very large epoccipitals (7-9 in other species) in adults; maxilla without lateral horizontal shelf; premaxilla without posterodorsal extension; supraorbital horncores longer in adults than in other species of Chasmosaurus.
T. M. Lehman 1996Moderately sized chasmosaurine with long, broad. dorsally curved squamosals with convex lateral margins bearing six to ten pronounced marginal undulations with or without attached epoccipitals, a slender medially indented parietal bar with narrow posterolateral rami enclosing very large triangular parietal fenestrae, anteromedian process of the nasals separating the premaxillae, and large posteriorly curved supraborital horncores arising directly over the orbits. The posterior curvature of the supraorbital horncores, dorsal curvature of the squamosals, and slender construction of the parietal distinguish C. mariscalensis from Pentaceratops sternbergii.
