Microaltingia was named by Zhou et al. (2001) [Holotype-CUPC 1062. Paratype-CUPC 1063; 1064; 1065; 1066; 1067; 1068; 1070; 1071; 1072. ]. It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Microaltingia apocarpela.

It was assigned to Altingioideae by Zhou et al. (2001).
