Taxonomy
Mabelia archaia was named by Gandolfo et al. (2002) [Figs. 20, 23, 24 of Gandolfo et al. (2002). Specimens deposited in the Cornell University Paleobotany Collection, L. H. Bailey Hortorium, Department of Plant Biology, Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, USA. ]. Its type specimen is CUPC 1269. Its type locality is Old Crossman Clay Pit, which is in a Turonian fluvial-lacustrine claystone in the Raritan/Lower Magothy Formation of New Jersey.
