Commutatophyllum was named by Kaplan (1971) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-l C Tour-l Sepkoski's reference number: 798]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Cyathophyllidae by Hill (1981); and to Rugosa by Sepkoski (2002).
