Taxonomy
Pseudemys was named by Gray (1856) [see Webb (1995) for date of publication in 1856 and not 1855]. It is extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Chrysemys by Boulenger (1889).

It was assigned to Emydinae by Estes (1964), Bickham (1975), Holman (1985) and Seidel and Smith (1986); to Deirochelyinae by Parham et al. (2008) and van Dijk et al. (2014); and to Emydidae by Cope (1875), Holman et al. (1990), Frank and Ramus (1996) and Vlachos (2018).
