Corwenia was named by Smith and Ryder (1926) [Sepkoski's age data: C Vise-u C Step-l Sepkoski's reference number: 163]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Aulophyllinae by Hill (1956); to Dibunophyllinae by Hill (1981); to Rugosa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Aulophyllidae by Kawamura and Stevens (2012).
