Taxonomy
Thinocetus arthritus was named by Kellogg (1969). Its type specimen is USNM 23794, a partial skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Mud Cliffs, East of, which is in a Serravallian offshore shelf siltstone in the Choptank Formation of Virginia.
