Metaxytherium crataegense
Taxonomy
Hesperosiren crataegensis was named by Simpson (1932). Its type specimen is AMNH 26838, a partial skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Florindin Company Mine, which is in a Hemingfordian/Barstovian marine horizon in the Torreya Formation of Florida.
It was corrected as Hesperosiren crataegense by Simpson (1932); it was recombined as Metaxytherium crataegense by Aranda-Manteca et al. (1994), Domning (1996), Domning (2008), Hastings and Dooley (2017) and Domning (2018).
