Taxonomy
Avisauridae was named by Brett-Surman and Paul (1985). It is not extant. Its type is Avisaurus.
It was synonymized subjectively with Alexornithidae by Kurochkin (1996); it was reranked as the unranked clade Avisauridae by Cau and Arduini (2008).
It was assigned to Theropoda by Brett-Surman and Paul (1985); to Alexornithiformes by Kurochkin (2000); to Euenantiornithes by Cau and Arduini (2008); and to Enantiornithes by Chiappe and Calvo (1994), Sanz et al. (1995), Varricchio and Chiappe (1995) and Atterholt et al. (2018).
