Cyathaxonia was named by Michelin (1847) [Sepkoski's age data: D Fame-l P Guad-u Sepkoski's reference number: 680]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Cyathaxoniidae.
It was assigned to Rugosa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Cyathaxoniidae by Hill (1956) and Fedorowski and Vassilyuk (2011).
