Plecotus crassidens was named by Kormos (1930). Its type locality is Betfia 2, which is in a Pleistocene cave horizon in Romania.

T. Kormos 1930An der vorliegenden, einzigen Mandibel ist die Temporalfossa weniger tief als bei Plecotus auritus, vorne mehr spitzwinkelig.; Vorderrand des Processus coronoideus met dem Rand der Incisura infracondyloidea parallel; Processus angualris breiter, auf der Labialseite mit einer scharfen Kante.
Die Krone des p4 is niedriger, als bei der rezenten Form; die Achse dieses Zahnes mehr querstehend. Hauptunterschied zwischen den beiden, dass bei der fossilen Art der m3 hinten ebenso breit, wie vorn und dadurch viel robuster ist.
