Myogale germanica was named by Seemann (1938).

It was recombined as Plesiosorex germanicus by Viret (1940), Rzebik-Kowalska (1993) and Ziegler (2009).

I. Seemann 1938Myogale germanica ist eine neue, obermiocäne Art der Genus Myogale, die bis jetzt im obermiocänen Flinz Mönchens und in vollstänadigeren Resten in der obermiocänen Braunkohle von Viehhausen gefunden wurde. Wir kennen die Zähne ds Oberkiefers in ihrer Reihenfolge und den nahezu vollständigen Unterkiefer. Myogale germanica ist die bis jetzt größte fossile Myogale-Art und außerdem die erste Myogale-Art auf deutschem Boden. Myogale germanica hat sehr viel ähnlichkeit mit den beiden rezenten Vertretern Myogale moschata (DEsman) und Myogale pyrenaica (Biberspitzmaus).
