Taxonomy
Cladornis was named by Ameghino (1895). It is not extant. It is the type genus of Cladornithidae.

It was considered a nomen dubium by Simpson (1946).

It was assigned to Cladornidae by Ameghino (1905); to Cladornithidae by Wetmore (1960); to Cladornithes by Simpson (1972); and to Aves by Tambussi et al. (2023).
