Taxonomy
Eutemnodus americanus was named by Bravard (1858) [said to be a nomen nudum in Bravard 1858 and validated by Burmeister 1885 by Riggs 1934]. It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Hyaenodon americanus by Ameghino (1904).
