Iriartites tumbezensis was named by Berry (1919). It is not extant. Its type locality is Winslow collection, Tumbez area, which is in a Miocene/Miocene lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal sandstone/claystone in Peru. It is the type species of Iriartites.
