Taxonomy
Ophiolepis was named by Müller and Troschel (1840). It is extant. It is the type genus of Ophiolepididae, Ophiolepidinae, Ophiolepidoidea.
It was assigned to Ophiolepidinae by Matsumoto (1915), Wolburg (1939) and Spencer and Wright (1966); and to Ophiolepididae by Ljungman (1867), Jagt (2000), Storc and Zitt (2008) and O'Hara et al. (2018).
