Taxonomy
Solaster moretonis was named by Forbes (1856). It is not extant. Its type specimen is Holotype BMNH 40421. Its type locality is Echinoderms, Oberer Hauptrogenstein, Late Bajocian, Schinznach, Aargau, which is in a Bajocian open shallow subtidal grainstone/marl in Switzerland.

It was recombined as Brachisolaster moretonis by Blake (1993); it was recombined as Plesiosolaster moretonis by Hess (1972), Villier (2010) and Gale (2011).
