Planera longifolia was named by Lesquereux (1872). It is not extant.

It was recombined as Zelkova longifolia by Engler (1888); it was recombined as Fagus longifolia by Hollick and Cockerell (1908); it was recombined as Fagopsis longifolia by Hollick (1909), Knowlton (1919) and Manchester and Crane (1983).
