Cedrelospermum was named by Saporta (1889) [Type: Cedrelospermum aquense]. It is not extant. Its type is Cedrelospermum aquense.

It was assigned to Meliaceae by Andrews (1970); and to Ulmaceae by Manchester (1987) and Jia et al. (2015).
