Eastonoides was named by Wilson and Langenheim (1962) [Sepkoski's age data: P Asse P Sakm Sepkoski's reference number: 1240]. Its type is Eastonoides elyensis.

It was assigned to Acrocyathinae by Hill (1981); and to Rugosa by Sepkoski (2002).
