P. Goubet et al. 2000N. pocahontas is characterized by two types of pinnules, both of which have a rounded apex with well-marked venation and are asymmetrical. The first type is oblong and tounge shaped with a cordate base. The other type is smaller, rounded, and broadly attached. A large size variation exists within the species. N. pocahontas could be a variety of N. schlehanii, and is similar to N. smithsii.
