Neuralethopteris biformis was named by Lesquereux (1880) [Holotype: Neuropteris biformis. Lesquereux considered N. biformis and N. elrodii to be conspecific. However, N. elrodii should be assigned to N. schlehanii.].

P. Goubet et al. 2000Pinnules are large, elngated and cordate; the apex is usually roundly acute. Venation is course with a well marked midvein. Secondary veins fork twice, and sometimes a third time near the margin. N. biformis is abundant in Alabama, but does not show large morphological variability.
