Taxonomy
Aphelops fossiger was named by Cope (1878). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Long Island Quarry, which is in a Hemphillian terrestrial horizon in the Ogallala Formation of Kansas.
It was recombined as Teleoceras fossiger by Osborn (1898), Hay (1902), Cope and Matthew (1915), Matthew (1918), Skinner et al. (1968), Prothero and Manning (1987) and Prothero (2005).
