Taxonomy
Actinaraea was named by d'Orbigny (1849) [Sepkoski's age data: J Sine K Apti Sepkoski's reference number: 819,821,825,919]. It is not extant. Its type is Agaricia granulata.

It was assigned to Actinacididae by Roniewicz (1976) and Turnsek (1997); to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002); and to Haplaraeidae by Baron-Szabo (2021).

R.C. Baron-Szabo 2021Colonial, massive, folios, thamnasterioid, including ploco- to cerio-thamnasterioid. Budding intracalicular(-marginal). Corallites embedded in a coenosteum that is generally porous to reticulate. Costosepta few in number with irregular perforations, septal flanks granular. No paliform structures. Columella generally feebly de veloped, parietal, lamellar, substyliform. Synapticulae present. Intertrabecular distance ranging between 80 and 180 μm. Endothecal dissepiments thin, tabulate. Wall absent or incomplete synapticulothecal.
