Epiphanophyllum was named by Ilina (1970) [Sepkoski's age data: P Guad-u]. Its type is Epiphanophyllum sinuosum.

It was assigned to Antiphyllidae by Ilina (1970); to Cyathaxoniidae by Hill (1981); to Rugosa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Lophotichiidae by Fedorowski and Vassilyuk (2011).
