Taxonomy
Proviverra typica was named by Rütimeyer (1862). Its type specimen is NMB Em.18, a partial skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Egerkingen, gamma fissure, which is in a Bartonian fissure fill horizon in Switzerland.
