Karakoromys was named by Matthew and Granger (1923). It is not extant. Its type is Karakoromys decessus.
It was assigned to Eomyidae by Matthew and Granger (1923); to Tataromyidae by Tong (1997); to Tataromyinae by Vianey-Liaud et al. (2006); and to Ctenodactylidae by Wang and Wang (1991), McKenna and Bell (1997), Wang and Qiu (2004) and Li and Meng (2015).
