Taxonomy
Liaotherium was named by Zhou et al. (1991). It is not extant. Its type is Liaotherium gracile.

It was assigned to Amphilestinae by Zhou et al. (1991); and to Amphilestidae by Kielan-Jaworowska et al. (2004).
