Taxonomy
Confusastrea was named by d'Orbigny (1849). It is not extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Complexastrea by Wells (1956); it was misspelled as Confusastraea by Sepkoski (2002) and Kiessling (2008).

It was assigned to Scleractinia by Osberger (1954) and Sepkoski (2002); and to Montlivaltiidae by Kiessling (2008).
